100th Street Funicular to River Valley Trail

Catch a free ride on the 100 Street Funicular - your link from Downtown Edmonton to the North Saskatchewan River Valley. Take in the sights and sounds of Edmonton's River Valley as you ride along the side of the bank in the glass-walled elevator. The 48-second ride leads you to a promenade partway down the hill where you can have a picnic, snap pictures, or read a book. Walk across the promenade to the lookout point with an unobstructed view of the river valley.

4th Street Promenade

4th Street Promenade is the area on 104th Street between Jasper Avenue downtown and the ICE District. Here you'll find local shopping, iconic restaurants, and historic buildings. Upscale fashions and furniture can be found next door to small artisanal crafts and artifacts, and many of these shops are found within the historical buildings from the old warehouse district.

ICE District

ICE District is Edmonton's newest neighbourhood for sports and entertainment in the downtown core. Located at the north end of the 4th Street Promenade, ICE District features Rogers Place, an architectural and technological marvel that hosts the biggest names in music and is home to the Edmonton Oilers and Oil Kings hockey teams. Here, you’ll see hockey hair and sweet guitar riffs in all their glory on the largest high-definition screen and scoreboard in any NHL arena.

Additional Areas of Interest

Old Stratchona & Whyte Avenue
(10-minute drive from the Downtown Core)

Anchored by the funky, bohemian spirit of Whyte Avenue, historic buildings blend with youthful exuberance to make Old Strathcona one of Edmonton’s trendiest neighbourhoods. The city's celebrated arts and cultural community makes its home here, as does a plethora of unique local boutiques, one-of-a-kind art galleries and music shops, and trendy restaurants and cafés.

Fort Edmonton Park
(20-minute drive from the Downtown Core)

Providing the best in living history, Fort Edmonton Park is nestled on 64 hectares (158 acres) of wooded parkland along Edmonton’s River valley. What began as a Canada Centennial project in 1967 to reconstruct the old Fort Edmonton, quickly grew to encompass much more and now includes the 1846 Hudson’s Bay Fort as well as the Streets of 1885-1920, depicting the evolution of Edmonton’s early history. Plan your visit
