AGING DRIVER TASK FORCE

JOINT AAMVA / CCMTA
DRIVER FITNESS / AGING DRIVER FORUM

AAMVA and CCMTA recently co-operated to present the forum: Challenging Myths and Opening Minds: Aging and the Medically At-Risk Driver in Austin, Texas, March 4-6, 2006.

Approximately 150 people participated in the three day forum, the first ever in North America, that focussed on both driver fitness and older driver issues affecting driver licensing administrators. Topics included driver screening and assessment, strategies for medical review, public education and awareness.

The first two days of the forum were organized by AAMVA. The third day of the forum entitled “Canada Day” (see agenda) focussed exclusively on Canadian experience and included a series of presentations and a number of facilitated sessions to help Canadian jurisdictions plan for the future.

The CCMTA Task Force on the Aging Driver will be evaluating the key issues from this session in 2006 as its members commence the review of the original 2000 Aging Driver Strategy and the development of a new strategy for Canada.

CCMTA would like to thank the
Canadian Automobile Association for its sponsorship and their financial support in providing a professional facilitator.

Here are a few pictures of presenters and faciliated sessions:
