Organizational News & Updates

February 2026

The CCMTA Board of Directors has concluded its February in-person meeting in Ottawa, ON.

The Board continues to advance priority files on behalf of members. Key highlights from the meeting include:

  • Organizational Structure: The Board has been working diligently to revamp CCMTA’s organizational structure and has expanded its Program Committee structure from three to five Program Committees. Each of the five Program Committees will work towards addressing critical areas within CCMTA’s mandate — drivers, vehicles, data and technology, commercial motor vehicles and carriers, and road safety research. The Board approved new Terms of Reference, and members are currently being onboarded to ensure a smooth transition. More details on this to come soon.

  • Canadian Driver Licence Agreement (CDLA): The Board received an educational presentation on the CDLA, the pan-Canadian agreement that enshrines the One Driver – One Licence – One Record, enabling consistent identity verification, card security, and information exchange across all jurisdictions. The Board approved the CDLA Oversight Group Terms of Reference, and a new project charter for the review of the CDLA Administrative Guide, which contains best practices, equivalency tables, technical definitions, and supporting documents to support jurisdictions in the operationalization of the CDLA.

  • Driver Fitness Overview Group (DFOG): The Board received an educational session on DFOG, a national expert committee composed of medical professionals & provincial/territorial driver fitness program administrators, mandated to develop, maintain and update National Safety Code (NSC) Standard 6 on Determining Driver Fitness in Canada

  • National Safety Code (NSC) 7, 14, and 15: The Council of Ministers Responsible for Transportation and Highway Safety (COMT) tasked CCMTA to analyze the current challenges of the Safety Fitness Certificate (SFC). The CCMTA Board received an update on National Safety Code (NSC) Standard 7 (on Carrier and Driver Profiles), NSC Standard 14 (Safety Ratings), and NSC 15 (Facility Audits). CCMTA is on track to provide proposed changes and a path forward to the Council of Ministers in September 2026. Industry will continue to be consulted as part of the process.

  • Interprovincial Record Exchange (IRE): The Board received updates on progress supporting jurisdictions in the day-to-day management of the IRE network and the ongoing migration to a cloud-based environment. This modernization enhances how jurisdictions connect and exchange data.

  • Data Administration for Third Party Data Products: Recognizing the importance of effective data management associated with third-party products, the Board received an annual report on the work CCMTA completed in data administration in 2025. This included a progress report on audits currently being completed with a sample of CCMTA’s third-party clients. The outcomes of the audit are positive, and all audited clients are compliant with CCMTA’s data administration framework.

  • Brand, Marketing and Engagement: In late 2025, the Board approved a new logo and refreshed branding for CCMTA. Staff provided an update on implementation, and the Board expressed enthusiasm for its planned launch in March 2026. Stay tuned for more information to come...including the launch of a “CCMTA store” where branded merchandise will be made available for purchase.

  • The Board also reviewed a communications plan and calendar for CCMTA – in order to increase CCMTA’s profile and be more transparent and accountable to its members and with its industry partners.  This included approving a renewed approach for CCMTA’s Associate Program for launch in April 2026, and revised policies for the planning of the Annual Meeting and for CCMTA’s Award program. Stay tuned for more details!

Together, we’re working to ensure Canada’s roads are the safest in the world.
