Sean McAlister Service Recognition

Sean McAlister

In 2017, CCMTA renamed this presentation to the Sean McAlister Recognition of Service in memory of Sean McAlister. Sean was well-known within the CCMTA community, having served as both staff and volunteer with CCMTA at various times throughout his career. A devoted employee of CCMTA in the late 1980s and 1990s, when Sean’s career brought him to the BC provincial government in 2000, he maintained his relationship with CCMTA as a member of the Drivers and Vehicles Program Committee. A respected authority within the compliance and regulatory sector as well, Sean’s consulting work ensured he stayed connected with CCMTA at with the Program Committee on Compliance and Regulatory Affairs. Sean passed away on August 20, 2016 after a courageous battle with cancer.

2019/2020 Recipients (since July 2019)

CCMTA has honoured the following individuals so far this year:

MTetzlaff   Maureen Tetzlaff, Ontario
Maureen has been active within the CCMTA community for a number of years, contributing and participating on numerous D&V Program Committee project groups such as Commercial Driver Training, the Vehicle Strategy Overview Group, CAVR and NVIS. Maureen retired from the Ontario Ministry of Transportation in December 2019; her knowledge and expertise will be missed.
PBrown   Paul Brown, Ontario
Paul has been active member of the Program Committee on Drivers and Vehicles (D&V) since 2014. During this time, Paul has made significant contributions to the work done at CCMTA, of particular note was his leadership in supporting Canada’s medical standards for a number of years. Paul was recognized at the CCMTA 2019 Fall Meetings, as he embarked on a well-deserved retirement shortly thereafter.

Alf Brown, Alberta
Prior to joining the Program Committee on Drivers and Vehicles (D&V) in 2015 as an Alberta representative, Alf was an active member of CCMTA working groups for a number of years representing Ontario on motor carrier initiatives. In August 2019, Alf will embark on a well-deserved retirement.


Shannon Bunkowsky, Manitoba
Since 2014, Shannon was Manitoba Public Insurance (MPI)’s representative on the Program Committee on Road Safety Research and Policies (RSRP). She was actively involved in initiatives such as distracted driving, impaired driving, and the cannabis working group, among others. In June 2019, Shannon left MPI to pursue other opportunities.


Dr. Jamie Dow, Québec
Jamie has been an active member of CCMTA since 2004; lending his support and expertise in drafting and updating CCMTA’s medical standards for drivers. In 2012, Jamie was recognized for his contributions to CCMTA by receiving the Jennie Howie Government Award. In August 2019, Jamie will embark on a well-deserved retirement.


William Lownds, Nova Scotia
Since 2011, Bill has represented Nova Scotia on the Program Committee on Drivers and Vehicles (D&V), providing support on vehicle issues and the CDLA. In June 2019, Bill will embark on a well-deserved retirement.


Wayne Norris, Northwest Territories
Since 2014, Wayne has represented the Northwest Territories on the Program Committee on Drivers and Vehicles (D&V). Wayne has been involved in initiatives such as the revisions of NSC Standards 2, 3, and 4, and the operationalization of the CDLA. In July 2019, Wayne will embark on a well-deserved retirement.

COconnell   Chris O'Connell, New Brunswick
Chris joined the CCMTA Board of Directors in early 2013 and has served as an important champion of the work at CCMTA, ensuring that the priorities of the organization support its members. Chris has provided leadership on the Finance Committee and CCMTA governance and priority setting. In September 2019, Chris accepted another opportunity within the New Brunswick Department of Public Safety.


The Sean McAlister Service Recognition honours an individual who has been an active member of the Board, program committee or project group for more than five years, upon their departure or retirement from a CCMTA volunteer position.

It also recognizes CCMTA staff members upon completion of 15 and 25 years of service, and upon return retirement.


Recipients are recognized throughout the year upon their departure or retirement. If appropriate, recipients may be recognized at the Annual Meeting during the banquet.
