Understanding RSS2035+: Driving Safety Forward as One Community or Our Roads, Our Strategy: Understanding RSS 2035+ Together
Canada's road safety landscape is evolving. This foundational session introduces RSS 2035+, a long-term, evidence-based national strategy, and invites participants into a shared dialogue about the path ahead. Through expert moderation, interactive polling, and unique panelist insights and perspectives, attendees will leave with a clear understanding of the strategy's vision, pillars, and the collective responsibility required to make Canada's roads safer for everyone.
Building on the systems-thinking foundation established in Session 1, this forward-looking session turns the spotlight on commercial vehicles and carriers — a cornerstone of Canada's transportation network and a sector poised for significant transformation in the years ahead.
As freight demand grows and supply chains become more complex, Canada's Road Safety Strategy 2035+ calls for a fundamental shift in how we approach carrier safety — moving beyond compliance toward a culture of professionalization, innovation, and shared accountability across jurisdictions and sectors.
This session brings together leading voices to explore how training, awareness, and enforcement must evolve in tandem to prevent fatal and serious injuries on Canadian roads. Attendees will engage with a critical question shaping the next decade of road safety policy: What must change to ensure commercial carriers operate within a system where safe behaviour is consistently expected, supported, and enforced consistently across Canada?

The Safe System Approach: Smart Technology vs. The Human Factors Perspective
Road safety in Canada is at a pivotal crossroads. On one side, transformative advances in connected vehicles, smart infrastructure, and data-driven systems are reshaping how we design and manage our roads. On the other, the unpredictable realities of human behaviour — particularly among aging and adapting road users — continue to define the limits of any technological solution. This session brings together two of Canada's leading road safety researchers to explore this tension head-on, offering delegates a comprehensive and dual-lens view of the future of safe mobility from both a systems and human factors perspective.
